I’m Phil and I’m from Northern Virginia, but currently living in Michigan. I’m well on my way to financial independence and I really enjoy the personal finance realm. I love learning about personal finance and planning for the future. You can typically find me running scenarios in excel and studying for better ways to set myself up for success. I associate financial independence with security and freedom which is my ultimate goal.
I’ve thought about becoming a personal adviser or something similar but my career has taken me in a different direction. I started out as a mechanic and then spent time some doing Information Technology, hardware and software for a while. I’m currently working in Human Resources and getting to see a whole other side of business. I’ve always been a frugal person, described as cheap by some of my friends but the reality is I prioritize what is important to me and trim the fat in other areas so I can still have really nice things while preparing for my financial future.
I plan to be financially independent by age 39. Afterwards I plan to stay active and maintain a strong sense of purpose through self employment and volunteer work. I have an awesome bucket list of items to take care of including cycling across the nation and hiking the Appalachian Trail. Some of my overpriced hobbies include: gadget junkie, photography, cycling, snowboarding, and skiing.
